Refreshing the look of your home without spending too much
We all want to change things around every now and again, I am as guilty as the next person.
The thing is what is the most cost-effective way to do it, not the cheapest but we all have a budget to work to.
- Look at painting the walls with a different colour or in a small room think about wallpapering just one wall before you commit to an entire room.
- Forget colour trends, they come and go, you need to make sure you like a colour or design and you can live with it.
- Think longer term if you paint a dark colour in the spring how will that look in the darker winter days and nights? The same applies to fabrics for curtains, blinds and small accessories.
- Have a plan, change the lowest price items first – Cushions. You will be surprised how changing to large cushions 55 cm and above will look and instantly change the sofa and room.
- Go for long cushions for a sofa back and a small cushion for the sad chair in the corner of the room?
- Mix checks and stripes, look at large oversize and colourful designs, and think about fabric with a texture, on a plain sofa this totally changes the look.
- If in doubt request a sample of fabric, like paint, as colours look so different in the morning and evening light.
- A good pair of curtains with a thermal, bonded or interlining will always look stunning and is a good investment, you don’t have to spend a fortune on the fabric, let a thicker lining do the work.
Above all talk to someone who can make things for you and advise you on what is suitable and what you can expect the finished product to look like.
I’ll always try and help all customers old a new with a little bit of advice if ever you need it.
